Nomor Research provides Workshop on Self-Organising Networks (SON)

Nomor Research GmbH, a leading provider of LTE protocol stack solutions, announced today that it will in collaboration with Nokia Siemens Networks provide a Workshop on Self-Organising Networks as part of the 3G / HSPA / LTE Optimisation conference organised by Informa Telecoms & Media taking place in Frankfurt, Germany, on 12th of March 2010. The 6th annual 3G / HSPA / LTE Optimisation conference organised by Informa Telecoms & Media will take place 10th - 11th March 2010 in Frankfurt, Germany. The event attended by operators from Europe, Middle East and Asia will provide guidance on optimisation of mobile networks to maximize return of investment. Recently, Self-Organising Networks functions attracted a lot of attention as key driver for simplifying operation and maintenance of future networks, bringing down the cost of installation and management through the use of automated mechanisms such as self-configuration, self -optimisation and self-healing. Nomor Research in collaboration with Nokia Siemens Networks will carry out a post-conference workshop on Self-Organising Networks on 12th of March 2010. During the workshop the following topics will be addressed: LTE air interface, architecture and planning issues Overview standardisation of SON in 3GPP SON concept, architecture and use cases as well as business aspects SON framework with self-configuration/self-healing/self-optimisation Example SON procedures for coverage and capacity planning Automatic Neighbour Relation procedure Load balancing and RACH optimisation Furthermore, a novel SON demonstrator will be presented that shows the effect of automatic adaptation of different system parameters on system performance, cell load and end-user experience.

DVB completes Technical Study Mission on Internet TV

The Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) project carried out an extensive technical study mission in the area of content delivery technologies over the Internet. The study mission, lead by Nomor Research CEO Dr. Thomas Stockhammer on behalf of our partner LG Electronics, did a market survey to which many companies, both DVB members and non- members, responded with details about their technical solutions in the area of content delivery networks (CDNs), peer-to-peer (P2P) systems and unicast adaptive streaming solutions. The study mission concluded its activity in September 2009 from which a set of recommendations were proposed for DVB work in the area of Internet-TV content delivery. A public version of the study mission report is available as DVB bluebook A145 on the DVB website and an overview of the work is provided in the latest issue of the DVB scene.

Nomor provides SAE (System Architecture Evolution) test bed within the SEA project

To demo the benefits of the SEA adaptation framework especially in a mobile network, Nomor implemented a test bed, showing handovers between 3G networks (HSPA and LTE) and also non 3G networks (e.g. WiMAX). As the SEA content adaptation framework works with H.264 SVC (Scalable Video Codec), MVC (Multi View Codec) and MDC (Multi Description Codec) it is a good candidate to improve the perceived QoS for mobile clients especially in cases like handover, where network capabilities may decrease or increase suddenly. The Nomor testbed comprises a UE with software emulating the handover logic including the data router module. Handovers between 3G and non-3G networks are initiated by the UE performing the standardized attach / detach procedures manually or automatically, based on the signal strength or CQI. Also MME, PGW and SGW functionality are implemented. Protocols involved in the SAE based handover, namely PMIPv6, to connect non-3G network to the SAE network, GTP, NAS, S1-AP, RANAP are implemented according to the standard but only to the extend they are needed for the purpose of the testbed. Additionally to the protocols needed to control and perform handover, Nomor implemented also the NAM module (network awareness module) that is part of the SEA adaptation framework and that reports information about the current network capabilities that are used to do a proper adaptation decision. The testbed description (D6.1.1) can be found at: SAE homepage, to get further information or discuss how the Nomor mobility test bed or Nomor could help you to investigate mobility aspects get in contact with us.
